Wish Wednesday ~ #7!!!!

Spring is in the air here in NWO! I can feel it, and I know you'll be able to see it in my list of fancies this wednesday!

This dining room reminds me of a picnic! So light!!
I would die happy if I had stairs like this in my house!!

I don't really have the body shape for a dress like this... but I love it and would wear it all the same!!
And since we're on ModCloth...
Don't these inspire memories of the movie Marie Antoinette??
Isn't this just a gorgeous room? Check out the whole house! So airy and beautiful :)

Just a short one this week! I hadn't been planning on jumping back on the wagon so suddenly, so I wasn't prepared!! More next week!! Promise!

Cheers!!

-Shelly

Long time coming..

I won't bore you with a whole long post full of apologies and excuses, I'll be quick and then we'll be on our way...

I went to Ottawa in February to see my boyfriend of 4.5 years for his birthday. Ottawa is 2000km away from here so I took a week off work and the total cost (not including lost wages) was over $2500.

After I got home (not while I was there), he dumped me.

The end.

This has is taking a long time to get over, but I'm coping. Don't worry about me, I'm a tough chick.

Now, onto regular posts!!

I am very sorry for the delay.

sorry...

Sorry for the delay to anyone out there who actually looks at this... lots of unfortunate things happened immediately after returning from my trip. I will try to post once I've collected myself.

Thanks,
-Shelly

I'm on holiday!!!!

I may have neglected to mention something this past week... I'm on holiday!!

I'm spending the week in Ottawa! :)

I have decided to do this trip without my laptop ( crazy, I know, I haven't spent more than a week away from it since my trip around the UK last spring!), wish me luck!!

So while I'm here I'll be taking some time away from the blog, but I'll try to take pictures and do up a nice holiday post for you when I get back!! For now, enjoy a picture of the AMAZING sushi I had last night to kick off my holiday!

Baking Macarons!!!

Ok, I got a little lazy yesterday and didn't want to post about the strawberry macarons, so here it is!!
My macarons after baking, completed and the flavouring I used!

Strawberry Macarons With Vanilla Buttercream
Makes: ~30

Ingredients: Macarons
85g Ground Almonds
150g Confectioners Sugar
3 Large Egg Whites
1/4cup Granulated Sugar
Strawberry Flavouring
Red Food Colouring

Butter Cream:
2tbsp butter
1/2cup icing sugar
vanilla flavour

Directions
Macarons:
  •  Combine almonds and confectioners sugar (you can use your food processor if you want, but I didn't find that necessary).
  • In a clean grease free bowl, whip egg whites and granulated sugar until stiff peaks are achieved.
  • Add flavouring and food colouring (sparingly!! too much moisture means no macarons!)
  • Carefully add egg whites to almond mixture (everyone tells me to do this in 2 or more stages, but I didn't. Because I'm a rebel.).
  • Pipe ~1 inch macarons onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • (if you feel so inclined, smack that baking sheet a couple times on the counter, I did one sheet without doing this and one with this step... I didn't find a difference).
  • Let the macarons sit at room temperature for anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour (depending on the humidity where you are), or until you can touch the top of the macaron and it's no longer sticky.
  • Bake at 300F for 10 - 14 minutes (rotate part way through if your oven bakes as unevenly as mine).
  • I let mine dry a day at room temperature before filling
Butter Cream:
  • Cream together ingredients. (add more icing sugar if it's too soft for you!)
Assemble:
  • Sandwich about a teaspoon of butter cream between two shells
  • Macarons are best after they've sat assembled in an air tight container for a day or two!!

Enjoy!!

...hello? anyone? is there someone out there?

Cheers! xoxox
